Appcelerator Innovation Fund Provides New Mobile Gaming Platform Company With Resources to Launch in 83 Percent Less Time

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA–(Oct 3, 2012) – Appcelerator®, the leading mobile platform company, today announced the Appcelerator Innovation Fund, a startup investment program to support and fund transformative early-stage mobile companies. Mobile gaming platform company Lanica is the first startup selected by the fund; as such it receives funding, field expertise, access to facilities, financial guidance, legal counsel, marketing resources, engineering and sales channel support. Enabling rapid mobile game development for individual developers and enterprises embracing the gamification trend, Lanica’s technology will be demoed at Appcelerator’s CODESTRONG conference October 21-23 and available in December 2012.

“The Appcelerator Innovation Fund reflects our support, passion and excitement around the future of mobile,” said Appcelerator CEO Jeff Haynie. “Entrepreneurs are creating disruptive mobile technologies that will ignite and change the mobile world. Lanica is one of them. Their expertise in mobile gaming has the potential to transform the way mobile games are made. Typically, it could take a company in their space more than 12 months to launch; but with the support of the Appcelerator Innovation Fund, they are launching in just three months. We are thrilled to be working with Lanica as they build a disruptive mobile gaming platform.”

Lanica is headed by Carlos Icaza, former Co-Founder and CEO of Ansca Mobile, maker of the Corona SDK, and Kyoto Iguchi, former CEO of Infosia. Lanica is building a mobile-gaming platform based on Appcelerator Titanium and Appcelerator Cloud Service (ACS). Appcelerator’s enterprise customers, who include NBCUniversal, Cisco, Zipcar, and Safeguard, will now have the ability to build high-end mobile games quickly and easily. Because Appcelerator provides Lanica with office space, direct access to engineers, and integration into their sales force, Lanica is confident that the industry will more quickly realize the revolutionary impact of its technology.

“One of the biggest obstacles to starting a mobile company is housing and running all the back-end support,” explained Lanica CEO Carlos Icaza. “However, with the support of the Appcelerator Innovation Fund, we are able to launch the platform sooner and with better resources to ensure that our users will always have the best product possible.”

Whether they provide consumer-facing apps, back-end mobile infrastructure, enterprise apps, device side apps or cloud services, early-stage mobile startups are encouraged to submit a business plan to appcfund@appcelerator.com for Appcelerator Innovation Fund consideration. Initial evaluation is based on the business plan and supporting materials (technical and financial) provided. For those companies selected, further review will follow and take the form of more detailed presentations and a comprehensive due diligence process.
