Last week as many as 500,000 people gathered in Dhaka, Bangladesh for Digital World 2015. More than 250 exhibitors and almost 150 speakers supported the event’s objectives to showcase and progress Bangladesh’s Vision 2021 for a Digital Bangladesh. Part of this four-day event was a Titanium Conference on February 10th.
Zero to App Bootcamp
While the official Inauguration Ceremony with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took place at the main venue, Titan Alessio Ricco was already halfway into a one-day introduction to Titanium and Alloy. By the time the class was finished, participants had all built a cross-platform native newsreader app.
The bootcamp was kindly hosted by Grameen Solutions, one of the fastest growing software development companies in Bangladesh. The company is also known for its founder Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who in 2006 received the Nobel Peace Price for pioneering microcredit.
We had the honor to meet the professor and hear about his ideas for social business. We exchanged some thoughts about how Open Source Software like Titanium can play a role.
After the lunch break, the program continued with several national and international speakers discussing how to start and grow a mobile app company in Bangladesh. There were some great examples of entrepreneurship!
The future of tiConf
Over the last two years, Titan Boydlee Pollentine and his team at Tipsy & Tumbler have run eight Titanium conferences touching nearly every continent. This conference in Bangladesh was the biggest so far, and also the first one hosted by a local organizer. If you’re interested in organizing a local tiConf with support from Boyd’s team you can read more at their website.
