New in Titanium Studio 3.3.0 – Run in Genymotion

16 Flares 16 Flares ×

When Titanium SDK 3.2 came out, I walked you through the process of configuring the Titanium CLI to use Genymotion as your Android emulator. Genymotion emulators are many times faster and more stable than the Android-provided ones.

Now starting with Titanium Studio 3.3.0 you can test your apps using Genymotion straight from Studio, with no additional configuration steps; it works right out-of-the-box. This guide contains information on how to install and configure Genymotion. Once you have installed it and have downloaded at least one AVD, you can open up your project in Titanium Studio, and when you’re ready to test on emulator, your emulator option will be a drop down menu with all your AVDs, including those that belong to Genymotion.

Things to keep in mind:

  • You must be running Titanium Studio 3.3.0
  • Your target SDK for this app must be 3.3.0 (or greater)
  • If you don’t see your emulators, try selecting “refresh devices”
  • If you still don’t see your emulators, try opening up a Terminal window and typing adb kill-server and then adb start-server to restart ADB (Android Debug Bridge)

Genymotion emulators are blazing fast, and once you launch them for the first time, Studio will reuse the emulator instance, dramatically speeding up your workflow.

  1. Nice in theory if it worked. See eg
I installed Ti Studio 3.3.0 and then had to go back to 3.2.

    • Hi Simon,

Could you please see if your Genymotion and device images are all up-to-date?

  2. Ricardo,
Had GM installed for 3.2.x. Had to reinstall Studio due to a different issue. Followed your guide but Studio doesn’t recognize GM path on MacOS. Here’s a link to the screen cap.

I fired up GM outside of Studio. It works fine. Any ideas about what may be the issue?
