Update: The information in this blog post has since changed. For the most up to date information on pricing and usage please click here.

As I wrote last October, I am personally committed to openness and transparency regarding issues concerning our pricing and licensing. We care deeply about providing you with outstanding value and high quality products at competitive prices. This has been our commitment from the day Nolan and I started this company. One of our core company values is to “Enable Customer Success,” and we are honored each and every day to empower you to deliver transformative mobile experiences to the world.

Over the last few months, many of you have provided us with valuable feedback on the pricing of our free and commercial packages regarding Appcelerator Cloud Services (ACS) and Analytics.

We listened closely to what you said. As we begin 2013, we are pleased to announce substantial changes to the pricing of these various packages, effective immediately:

1. App Explore and Commercial Accelerate Packages

  • The free App Explore package, which previously included ACS monthly metrics of up to 100 Push Notification Devices, 500,000 API calls, 5GB of storage and 10,000 emails has now been increased to: 5 million Push Notifications, 5 million API calls, 20GB of storage and 100,000 emails.
  • The free App Explore package, which previously included Analytics metrics of up to 50,000 events per month has now been increased to 1 million events per month.
  • The commercial Accelerate packages (Standard, Enhanced, Premium) have also been increased to include the same monthly levels as above for both ACS and Analytics.

If you are an existing customer currently subscribing to any of the commercial packages, you will immediately and automatically inherit these new changes!

Note that at no point will your entitlements go below what has been purchased.

2. Appcelerator Cloud Services (ACS) Standalone Pricing

The standalone incremental pricing structure of ACS has also been dramatically simplified into a single free tier (per application) as follows:

All values are monthly, per app

Metric     Push Notifications   API Calls   Storage   Emails
Old 100 pushed devices 500,000 5GB 10,000
New 5 million 5 million 20GB 100,000
3. Appcelerator Analytics Standalone Pricing The standalone incremental pricing structure of Analytics has also been changed as follows. All values are monthly, per app
Metric     Events
Old 50,000
New 1 million

Please note that if you exceed any of the expanded limits above, you will be proactively notified by us and our sales department will be ready to assist you with the right commercial package. For more information

We will be hosting a live webinar on Thursday January 10th to review these changes in more detail and provide you with an opportunity for Q & A. To register for the webinar, click here.

Check out the updated Plans & Pricing page.

Everything we do starts with enabling your success. We are committed to being open and transparent with you regards to our pricing, and providing you with significantly more value (up to 20 times more in this case!). We can’t wait to share more about what new innovations we have in store for you in 2013! Stay tuned for more.

Thanks,

Jeff Haynie CEO, Appcelerator

I have to say that i was really excited about ACS when i first heard about it and waited pretty impatiently for it to come out. I wasn’t too thrilled with the pricing at first, but if there is one thing that I’ve learned quickly about Appcelerator, its that you guys are clearly focused on your customers. You’re platform has enable me and a lot of others to do some pretty amazing things. Anyways, this is a very welcome change. Thanks Jeff!

Thanks for taking into account customers critics & suggestions !
This is a very nice move making Appcelerator ACS very competitive to other platforms !
    Good job !!

  3. Harko

I could not find this anywhere, but what are the charges when one hits the limits. For example, after hitting 5M push notifications on the free tier, is there some sort of charge per additional block of pushes (say $X per additional N pushes)?

Thank you for this. It is a very welcomed change.

I was contemplating to switch push notification (and also other ACS features) slowly over to cheaper alternative but how big relief I am to read this post.. thanks. Will be loyal to ACS now.. lol.

@Harko – thanks for the feedback. Yes, in the blog it says that if you exceed any of the new expanded limits, you will be proactively notified by Appcelerator, and our sales department will be ready to assist you with the right commercial package.

    Hope that helps,
    Simon.

There is great concern regarding to what happened beyond the free usage – how much the charge would be? Honestly, you should disclose this as well. I have never had success contacting ‘the sales’, as after I completed the form I have never had any reply (twice done already).

You should disclose this publicly as well.

This is awesome! ACS is a great cloud platform. Much easier to deal with than others.

Title says “Pricing Updates”. Where are the prices? I don’t have the time to contact sales.

” I am personally committed to openness and transparency regarding issues concerning our pricing and licensing”

You could start by putting some actual prices on your plans and pricing page.

This is an absolute joke. The plans and pricing links are all dead ends and just end up on the home page. And then it is totally impossible to actually find a pricing page. Considering the previous pricing scandal I am really surprised by this. Jeff, it seems like your personal commitment is not worth a lot and again the commercial side of appcelerator fails significantly.

    • I have to agree with Neville. I’ve been scouring your site for up to date pricing info on ACS and cannot find it. I’ve seen numerous threads on your forums devoted to this issue. They go back a couple of years and some of them get ugly.

Potential customers are frustrated because it looks like a great platform but we want to be able to run some numbers before taking the plunge. I would also venture to say that most people don’t want to have to speak with a sales rep to find out the pricing. We live in an era of self-service. We want a simple chart of the costs so we can plan accordingly.

I fully understand the impetus not to list prices. In fact, we don’t list them on our site. But this is because we provide custom development services and our costs and time vary based on the scope of work. No two projects are alike and pricing is almost impossible to pinpoint when you don’t know what you are building. We can list our hourly rate, but that doesn’t tell the client anything worthwhile because no two projects will take the same amount of time. But your API calls and storage are easily quantifiable. Obviously, you have listed these prices before (above). So, what changed?

Perhaps you have deals with your sales people who work on commission? So they want to be able to get whatever they can from customers?
Maybe you don’t want to tip your hand to competitors? Maybe you don’t want to scare off potential customers with high prices? Whatever the reason, it doesn’t seem beneficial to frustrate your customers before they even get started.

So, sorry to be curt here, but why not just list your current pricing and quit wasting everybody’s time? We WANT to use your service- we just want to know what its costs are first!
