Mobile apps are fast replacing web applications as the way we buy, share, search, learn and collaborate. This is true for pretty much everyone, even if we haven’t put it in so many words. The question before every modern enterprise is this: what does it mean to operate – to thrive – in a “post-web” world?

One thing is certain. The technologies that got us here won’t take us there.

As Michael Facemire, principal analyst at Forrester Research, Inc. notes, “Mobile is not just a new front-end to an existing enterprise architecture – it’s the driver behind a full stack transformation.” Even more recent, mobile-specific technologies and acronyms don’t tell the full story. Nolan, our co-founder and CTO, put it this way in a recent blog: “Mobile is reshaping traditional (web) enterprise architectures and software infrastructures, and while current terms – MADP, APIs, MBaaS – each get at a crucial element in this reshaping, none addresses it in its entirety.”

This is where the Appcelerator Platform comes in. With the Platform, our customers have a unified, purpose-built mobile engagement platform that: a) speeds time to market with native cross-platform app development & testing B) unleashes enterprise data via mobile-optimized APIs c) delivers comprehensive real-time mobile analytics to power user engagement and measure success.

Today, I’m pleased to announce that customers now have access to a host of incredible new mobile innovations. If you’re a customer, you’ll see all of these new capabilities the next time you log in to the Platform. If you’re not a customer, I hope you’ll be sufficiently impressed to become one! Because with our Summer ‘14 release, the Appcelerator Platform is smarter, more connected and more flexible than ever.

Smarter

It’s tough to manage what you can’t measure. And while traditional application portfolios are held to all kinds of ROI measure, the investment plan for mobile apps – increasingly the more crucial bet – is made by guesswork and dart-throwing.

Enter Insights 2.0. Our newest mobile analytics capability, Insights 2.0 delivers real-time visibility into the five key mobile metrics necessary for any successful app: acquisition, engagement, retention, quality and conversion. Insights 2.0 displays all of this rich information through a single, tablet-based view designed for business stakeholders, IT leaders and company executives.

Want proof of the power of these mobile analytics? In one recent instance, Safeguard quadrupled adoption of an important business app in less than six months.

More Connected

Good mobile apps are greedy things, hungry for all kinds of data — from enterprise systems to SaaS repositories and, public sources such as Facebook and LinkedIn, to say nothing of whatever the Internet of Things throws out next. The problem is that connecting to many of these sources requires a bunch of laborious hand-coding to create the specialized data integrations needed for mobile consumption. The Appcelerator Platform’s new API Builder eliminates this, offering developers a simple, powerful point-and-click interface to assemble mobile-optimized APIs quickly and easily, freeing up valuable time to focus on creating great mobile experiences.

By making mobile-optimized APIs readily available – alongside connectors for enterprise data sources and a host of essential mobile services such as push notification and photo storage – the Appcelerator Platform lets mobile teams focus on innovating rather than integrating. This is no small point. Good mobile APIs act as a spur to innovation. Think of them as Lego blocks: the better and more varied the collection of blocks you make available, the better and more creative the objects people will build.

More Flexible

With full native SDK support, the Appcelerator Platform’s entire suite of capabilities can now be applied to any native app in a customer’s portfolio. That’s right: whether you build cross-platform native apps via the Appcelerator SDK or write directly to the iOS and/or Android operating systems via their respective native SDK, you have full access to everything the Appcelerator Platform offers. Comprehensive mobile analytics. Application performance management. Mobile test automation. Mobile connection to public and enterprise systems via the Platform’s MBaaS… Everything you need to connect, test, manage and measure your entire native app portfolio.

How does it work? It’s impressively simple. You can see how here. This new capability means customers can begin real-time tracking of all their mobile app investments – virtually overnight.

Last but certainly not least (especially not if you were part of the engineering teams that made it possible), the Appcelerator Platform now includes a private cloud deployment option for organizations whose regulatory requirements prohibit off-premises hosting. This means customers can choose the deployment model best for them: public (maximum speed and scalability at the lowest cost), private (maximum control) or virtual private (a mix of each).

Somewhere on our website it reads “Our Vision: Your Success.” It’s a commitment we take seriously. We pledge to our customers a leading mobile vision and continuous innovation in everything we do – and we’re thrilled to see the benefits customers have gained as a result.

Our Summer ‘14 release marks another exciting milestone in the journey.

For more, please watch our webinar from July 24, where Forrester Vice President & Principal Analyst Ted Schadler and Appcelerator Co-founder & CTO Nolan Wright looked at what it means for companies to make the mobile mind shift, and how the Appcelerator Platform speeds the transition.
