- Why did Appcelerator acquire Particle Code?
Particle Code is a complement to Appcelerator’s open, integrated mobile development platform. Particle Code’s platform enables mobile developers to write mobile apps and games once, deploy them both in HTML5 and as native apps across platforms and devices. These capabilities further strengthen Appcelerator’s core Titanium platform which has been used by 1.5 million developers around the world to create 30,000 native iOS and Android applications. The Particle Code team brings deep technology expertise and experience in solving the cross-platform challenges of the games industry, to help bolster our efforts and bring Titanium® developers best-in-breed tools.
- What does Particle Code do?
Particle Code is a platform that enables mobile developers to use various programming languages to write mobile apps and games once, then deploy to both HTML5 and native apps across multiple devices, all from within a single code base. Particle Code was awarded a DEMOgod award at Demo Fall 2010 for outstanding product and vision in the mobile category. The team behind Particle Code previously founded Mytopia. As mobile and social game developers, they faced the fragmentation problem head-on which eventually lead to building the Particle Code technology.

- How will Particle Code affect Appcelerator’s Titanium platform?
Particle Code’s HTML5 and gaming capabilities will strengthen Appcelerator’s flagship Titanium product, reflecting Appcelerator’s continued investment in its core platform and our desire to empower robust, rich media and application development on every device.
- Will the Particle Code team join Appcelerator?
Particle Code’s talent is a major addition to Appcelerator’s world-class team. Particle Code’s team of iOS, Android, and HTML5 developers won DEMO God 2010 and were named a Top 10 Mobile Startup by Laptop Magazine this year. All employees have accepted offers to join Appcelerator’s team in Mountain View.
- Will the Particle SDK still be supported?
Particle developers currently using the Particle SDK will continue to receive support through the end of 2011. The Particle Code team will be available to help developers deploy their projects, extract code or transfer projects to Titanium through this date. All support requests should be directed to support@particlecode.com. The Particle SDK will remain free and available for download at the Particle Code site, though developers should note that official support will be discontinued soon. The Particle Code forums will also remain active through the end of the year and will be monitored by Particle Code engineers.

Prior to the acquisition, Particle Code had 11 employees and Appcelerator had 89 employees.
- Did you hire the Particle Code employees?
Yes, 100% of Particle Code employees have joined Appcelerator.
- Did founders Galia Benartzi,Yotam Shacham and Yudi Levi join Appcelerator?
Galia, Yotam and Yudi are working with Appcelerator to optimize the transition and integration of the teams and technology. All founders will continue on as advisors to Appcelerator after the acquisition.
- Were there any layoffs?
No, all employees joined Appcelerator and are happily integrating into their new teams.
