Appcelerator Hires Former Gartner Analyst Michael King to Provide Mobile Strategy Consulting to Global 1,000 Enterprises

Venerable Analyst to Help Appcelerator’s Enterprise Customers Scale their Mobile Initiatives

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. – JANUARY 25, 2012 – Appcelerator®, the leading mobile platform company, today announced former Gartner analyst Michael King has joined the Appcelerator team as principal mobile strategist. A recognized authority in mobile, King will help Appcelerator’s more than 1,000 global customers to scale their mobile strategy using Appcelerator’s cross-platform solution.

In addition to helping Appcelerator’s enterprise customers define and implement their mobile strategies, King will help guide the company’s internal product strategy, ensuring Appcelerator’s Titanium platform and integrated services meet the highest standards for building intuitive, cloud-connected content-rich applications for mobile, tablet and desktop platforms. He will also provide strategic sales support, partner enablement, as well as market research/analysis and product evangelism.

An IT industry veteran, King spent the past 11 years at Gartner, most recently as research director, where he managed all U.S.-based wireless data research, specializing in mobile enterprise strategy. He has authored Gartner’s Magic Quadrants for MCAP (Mobile Consumer Application Platforms) and MEAP (Mobile Enterprise Application Platforms) since their creation, as well as the Magic Quadrants for Wireless LAN, U.S. Wireless Carriers, and the Packaged Mobile Applications Market Scope. King is also a frequent speaker on mobile, app development and enterprise technologies at influential industry conferences. Prior to Gartner, King held marketing and research positions at Neopoint and META Group.

Titanium Platform Finalist for Best Consumer Mobile Service and Best Cloud-based Technology

Appcelerator Expands Into Europe With New U.K. Office and Strengthens Management Team with Mobile Industry Executives

Company Adds Geographic and Executive Breadth to Empower Customers to Scale their Mobile Strategies Worldwide

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. – January 19, 2012 – Appcelerator®, the leading open platform provider for rapid and rich mobile innovation, today announced the opening of its EMEA headquarters in London and expansion of its management team to support the company’s accelerating growth.

EMEA Headquarters Leads Global Expansion

The European mobile app market is experiencing explosive growth, expected to grow from $1.2 billion in 2009 to $8.4 billion by 2015. In addition, U.K., Spain, Italy, Germany and France are expected to drive mobile ad revenue to more than a billion dollars by 2014, and almost $2 billion by 2016. Appcelerator has experienced this growing regional demand as well, increasing its user base by more than 110% over the last six months and landing significant customer wins throughout Western Europe.

Appcelerator announced the opening of its EMEA headquarters in London, U.K., and the appointment of Doug Norton-Bilsby as Vice President and Managing Director of EMEA. In this position, Doug will lead Appcelerator’s sales and operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, rapidly expanding a core team for sales and delivery in the region.

Doug comes to Appcelerator with vast multi-national experience taking several start-ups through hyper-growth cycles. Most recently, Doug headed EMEA and India sales and marketing Experian. Prior to that, Doug was Vice President, International for Endeca, where he wasresponsible for sales, marketing, telesales, sales engineering, business and channel development contributing significantly to their global growth, and Vice President of EMEA at Infor which during his tenure grew from $100 million in annual revenue to $2.6 billion. Doug has also held various sales positions at Cognos, Thomson Financial Software and Dun and Bradstreet. He is a graduate of Open University, with a post-graduate diploma in management, specializing in business.

Appcelerator Adds Vice Presidents of Engineering and Product Management

Carl Orthlieb joins Appcelerator as the new Vice President of Engineering, where he will be responsible for leading the development of Appcelerator’s integrated mobile platform products. Carl is a software engineering veteran, with 25 years of experience with mobile, desktop, enterprise and SaaS solutions, including 17 years at Adobe. Prior to Appcelerator, Carl was Vice President of Engineering, Product Portfolio Management at CA Technologies, and Director of Engineering at Pure Digital Technologies. He also served as Ariba’s Vice President of Applications Engineering. Carl has a Bachelor’s of Science in Systems Design from the University of Waterloo, and has completed advanced courses in project management and computer science at UC Berkeley and Stanford University.

Jo Ann Buckner comes on board as Vice President of Product Management, where she will oversee the company’s mobile platform strategy, planning and roadmap. Jo Ann has extensive experience driving revenue growth and customer success with mobile, SaaS and desktop businesses.  During Jo Ann’s 12 year tenure at Adobe, she was responsible for business model innovation on the $2 billion Creative Suite business and most recently served as Director of Product Management, Touch Tooling and Creative Cloud. In this position, Jo Ann defined the strategy and led the transformation of the creative workflow with mobile apps and cloud-based services. Prior to Adobe, Jo Ann was Vice President of Product Management and Development at Pointshare, now Siemens Medical. She also held product management positions at IDX Systems, now GE Healthcare and Precedent Systems. Jo Ann holds a B.A. in Economics from Gonzaga University.
