Extends Titanium Platform to Resolve Cross-Platform Fragmentation for Third Party Cloud and Software Developers; Launches with More Than 50 Leading Mobile Solutions, including PayPal, Facebook, Salesforce, Millennial Media, and Gaming Platform

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – September 19, 2011 – Appcelerator®, the leading mobile cloud platform for rapidly developing native mobile, desktop, and tablet applications using web technologies, announced today at its CODESTRONG Developer Conference that it has launched “Appcelerator Open Mobile Marketplace,” for ISVs and cloud providers to sell software and solutions across multiple mobile operating systems on Appcelerator’s industry-leading Titanium™ platform and to its growing developer community of more than 1.5 million developers.  Open Mobile Marketplace (marketplace.appcelerator.com) launches with 50 leading mobile solutions, including PayPal, Salesforce, Millennial Media, and a full gaming platform.  The marketplace also enables any third party to sell native and HTML5 mobile modules, app templates, design elements, and cloud extensions to Appcelerator’s entire developer community.

"With over 1.5 million developers, Appcelerator has built the world’s largest cross-platform developer community,” explained Scott Ellison, IDC VP Mobile & Consumer Connected Platforms.  “The Open Mobile Marketplace presents an enormous opportunity for anyone looking to scale their business by leveraging the power of their ecosystem.”

Unlocking Mobile Innovation
Appcelerator’s Open Mobile Marketplace (“Marketplace”) addresses the larger mobile platform fragmentation problem currently facing the cloud and software development industry.  As computing moves to distributed, multiple platforms such as iOS and Android, it is becoming increasingly difficult for vendors to deliver their services consistently across these popular devices.  With Appcelerator’s use of open web standards, a robust platform with over 3,600 native features, and now Marketplace, cloud and software vendors can build solutions on one integrated mobile platform that can be used by web developers worldwide to reach multiple mobile OSes.

Mobile software solutions available at launch include: AdMob, Box.net, Bump, DoubleClick, Greystripe, Omniture (Adobe), PayPal, Salesforce, Scanbuy, Twilio, and Urban Airship.  Gaming modules include Gamekit, OpenGL (graphics), and Box2D (physics).  A full list of modules is available on the marketplace website.

“Mobile commerce is a trillion dollar opportunity … and platform ubiquity is essential to reach our customers anytime, anywhere, and in anyway,” noted Laura Chambers, Senior Director of Mobile, PayPal.  “We see Appcelerator’s reach and ease of implementation across multiple platforms as a significant advantage for our customers and the mobile industry as a whole.”

“We made a strategic choice to use Titanium early on,” noted Alex Iskold, CEO of GetGlue. “We wanted a native development that was highly efficient and that could deploy to all of the major mobile platforms. With Titanium, Get Glue found a native user experience, social integration with Facebook and Twitter and the outstanding support from the Appcelerator team. The iPhone, Android and iPad apps were built by 2 developers in just two months.”

“The future of enterprise mobility won’t be owned by any one platform, which means that vendors need to deliver an unparalleled experience across all devices," said Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box. “We are excited to be a part of Appcelerator’s new Marketplace as we both work to answer the growing demand for multi-platform support, making it easy for workers to access and share content from anywhere.”

Open to Everyone, Simple to Publish, Easy to Make Money
Marketplace is available for any developer or business who wants to publish a native or HTML5 mobile module, app template, or mobile cloud service.  Appcelerator offers self-serve tools for publishers to upload content, integrate with existing subscription services, promote assets, support and maintain offerings.  Assets can be free or paid, with a 70/30 revenue share agreement available for paid-for content.

Titanium Studio, Appcelerator’s industry-leading, cross-platform IDE, has also been updated to integrate Marketplace into the Titanium mobile development workflow.  Similar to Apple iTunes, Appcelerator will feature popular modules, staff favorites, and modules developed by Appcelerator partners.

“From day one, Appcelerator has been focused on enabling a thriving, successful mobile ecosystem,” noted Jeff Haynie, CEO of Appcelerator.  “With over 25,000 mobile applications in use by over 20 million users, we have the most successful, cross-platform developer ecosystem in the market.  The stage is set for enabling the entire mobile value-chain to scale their business by increasing their reach and adding innovation on top of the Titanium platform.  This open and extensible approach represents the future of where Titanium is going as a platform and where Appcelerator is going as a company.”
